Asterisk 1.4 AgentLogin Popping

Hi Nicolas et al,
Hope everything is well with you!
We're still having that problem whereby screen popping doesn't work if
the agents are constantly on the phone (i.e. using AgentLogin instead of
AgentCallBackLogin).
The CallerID shows up on the Agent's button etc, but screen pops don't work.
If we use dynamic agents or AgentCallBackLogin, they work fine, but the
customer would like to have agents sitting listening to musiconhold
between calls :)
Any ideas as to what we might do to resolve this?
Last time we wrote a quick Windows app to do the popping, but this
customer is using Linux for the call centre clients.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
